As the economy takes a down turn, and more and more people lose their jobs, some folks in the heavily industrialized sectors of Canada are turning or returning to Atlantic Canada.
Fredericton, N.B. is a destination of choice for many people. Although we are all feeling the effects of the economy, Fredericton is able to weather the storm a little better than most cities.
We have a steady, stable income base.
Housing costs are not inflated, the way of life is a lot simpler, there are no traffic jams, and our neighborhoods are family oriented.
Some large recruiting firms are reporting they can locate people to come to work in New Brunswick now who before this economic downturn would not consider Atlantic Canada.
Atlantic Canada has so far been insulated from the economic bust. Job losses have not been as severe as other provinces and the expected decline of housing prices is not expected to occur in Atlantic Canada.
Retail spending has increased in New Brunswick and house prices are expected to rise or hold steady this year.
Migration flows reflect the changing tide, this region has posted the smallest net outflow since 1984, according to the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council.
It all bodes well for an area that was always a traditional have-not. We are now the destination of choice and above all a great place to live.

Greetings, I’m thinking of selling property (North West, Miramichi)Two story house, large barn, and appox.85 acre woodlot
appox. 85 acres of woodlot. Great privacy, moose country, and the North West Miramichi River flows by–open water–for fishing the world famous Atlantic salmon.
I’m thinking of moving to Fredericton (or close to Fredericton)

Hi David, It is always good to hear from someone on the Miramichi.
Do you have your place listed now?
I am not actually selling real estate anymore, but I can refer you to a good realtor.

Hi Kevin.
I agree, if you spent the last 25 years in Alberta, you have to come home.
A hobby farm with a woodlot is not impossible, but you would not be real close to all the amenities.
For instance, you may find yourself on the Royal Road, with a 10 to 15 minute drive into town.
There is still no grid lock in Fredericton, but we do have a rush hour from 4.30 to 5.
Let me know just what your budget is, and what area you want to be in, and I will see what I can do.

Hi. Born and raised on the prairies but thinking about moving to Fredericton for a slower pace of life. I Love history, husband loves fishing and seafood. He is a grain hauler and I am an LPN nurse. Can you enlighten me at big about average house prices just outside the city or at the perimeter of city limits. And whether the hospital employs LPN nurses.
Thank you

It is always good to hear from folks who are thinking about moving East. I don’t think you will regret it, but then I’m from here.
As for house prices, they vary from 160K to 400K so let me know what type, size, age, etc of house that you are looking for.
I am no longer selling real estate but I can answer your questions and steer you in the right direction.
I have a friend who is one of the top realtors in Fredericton, so have a look at her site:
http://www.frederictonhomes.com.
Rebecca is very professional and will be able to find you the perfect home.
