When selling, it is very important to improve your home’s interior appeal:
There are 2 rules in real estate:
1. Clean sells
2. Pretty sells
In other words, make sure your house is as spotless and as un-cluttered as possible.
You have to look at your house through the buyer’s eyes.
If you have clothes piled everywhere, or you have a spoon collection that takes up a whole wall, or you have tons of toiletries on the bathroom counter, eliminate them. You don’t have to throw things out, just pack them up and put them away or hide things in drawers. Not the closet because buyers look in closets to see how much storage space there is. If there is a lot of extra stuff, put it in storage.
Here is a list of some of the activities that will make a difference:
Hold a garage sale.
Repaint or touch up paint, repair cracks and nail holes.
Fix leaky faucets, wobbly doorknobs, loose cupboard handles and squeaky hinges.
Clean draperies and upholstery, shampoo carpeting.
Wash windows, walls, paneling, and any other surface that might have smudges or fingerprints.
Put away all small appliances, and clean any large appliances that are included in the sale.
Lock away any jewellery and valuables.
Have fresh towels in the bathroom.
Be aware of odours, especially those you may have become accustomed to, such as cigarette smoke or pets.
Weather permitting, open windows to let in as much fresh air as possible.
Place any information sheets, disclosure sheets, etc. in plain view for prospective buyers to read.
